Traditional Indian clothing is a canvas for Indian culture and history but as the nation becomes more modern, modern, trendy, minimalist wear that can be sourced online and delivered to people's doorstep have risen. Maniila is a revolutionary brand that aims to help traditional Indian fashion capture the imagination of newer, more technologically adept generations of fashionistas.

The torch-bearer

Maniila champions traditional Indian art and culture- ideas and skills that have been passed down for centuries and are still revered today. Like an orator narrating captivating stories to a technologically enlightened crowd, Maniila's brand ethos is more than just that of a storyteller- it is that of a torch-bearer.

The Handshake

The Handshake represents agreement, delight, satisfaction, and trust- important rewards of the process from discovery to delivery. The Handshake fits within the wordmark as the core motivation of the brand.

Maniila believes that affordable clothing can still have a premium look and feel. A lush colour palette inspired by dyes from ancient Indian art and fashion, manifests pride and belonging.

Typefaces inspired by the brush and the sword

Maniila's typefaces are a combination of a sharp, geometric san-serif- Josefin Sans- representing the warrior's dance movements before a royal audience, and a soft, humanist serif- P22 Mackinac- whose uneven shapes and blunt serifs pay tribute to the painter's brush strokes.

A new age of art

Maniila is an artisanal brand that aims to bring traditional wear to a more modern, tech-savvy society. Its brand motifs are inspired by the shapes of block-printing molds traditionally used to print patterns on fabric.

Being the brand designer of Maniila was a journey of self-discovery, where I observed traditions I've grown up with, in a completely different light.
